Xbox’s “Visit Xbox” campaign was a groundbreaking marketing initiative that reimagined video games as immersive destinations and the beginning of the Gaming tourism. By leveraging the stunning visuals and expansive worlds within their games, Xbox transformed gaming from a solitary activity into a virtual travel experience.

During lockdown when people are stuck in their home, xbox started the campaign “Gaming tourism”

Problem

Traditional gaming marketing primarily focused on gameplay mechanics and features, limiting the appeal to a core gaming audience. There was an opportunity to broaden the appeal of gaming and introduce it to a wider audience.

Solution

Xbox reimagined their games as destinations, inviting players to “visit” the breathtaking worlds within their consoles. By partnering with Rough Guides, a renowned travel guide publisher, Xbox created the first-ever guidebook to virtual worlds.

The Rough Guide to Xbox: A groundbreaking partnership with Rough Guides resulted in a travel guide to virtual worlds, featuring detailed descriptions of in-game locations, cultures, and activities.  

Tourist Board-Style Ads: Xbox adopted a tourism-inspired advertising approach, showcasing the beauty and diversity of game worlds.

In-Game Guided Tours: Virtual guided tours were offered within select games, providing a deeper immersion into the game world.

Console Bundles: Xbox introduced “package holiday” bundles, including the console, games, and exclusive merchandise.
